Burned out on the gym?
Instead of ditching your physical activity, ditch the gym and head outdoors.
It is important to schedule time for physical activity and keep the schedule. Once you start skipping a day here and a day there it becomes a habit. Before you know weeks or even months have gone by and you are saying to yourself, “I need to get back on track.”
I get burned out too – Yesterday instead of going to the gym I went rollerblading and then came home and did yard work. Now that spring is here there are plenty of things to do outside. Whether you are walking, doing boot camp in the park or stadium, biking, doing yard work, running, rollerblading or washing the cars there are ways to stay on track.
You can also change things up at the gym:
- Get a class schedule and just do classes for awhile
- Do the traditional weight lifting – you can use machines, bands, or dumbbells
- Do six to eight weeks of heavy lifting with lower repetitions
- Followed by six to eight weeks of lower weight higher repetitions
- Just do cardio for a few weeks and then slowly work back into lifting
- You can also do circuit training performing multiple movements in a row before taking a break
One of my favorite things to do is to get a subscription to a magazine and try everything in the magazine for the month. I try the workouts and recipes. Google or bodybuilding.com are also good resources to use for finding new programs.
